Of course, but then the issue of collective punishment (I thinkt that's what you call it over there as well) comes in. Do you take away or limit a woman's rights because someone takes advantage of the system, or do you have to oversee and ask that people don't take advantage of it. Which isen't possible either. It's tricky. Neither is the right choice. To me, what's the main objective is that women deserve and need the right to have a choice and to decide what happens to their own body.

I believe in the right to choose even though I couldn't imagine having an abortion myself, there are times for example when a woman/young girl is raped, molested, or a victim of incest and end up pregnant they shouldn't be forced to go on with a pregnancy if they don't want to or are not mentally stable enough to.

There are women out there who use abortion as a form of birth control though and they could always try and put a limit on how many abortions a woman could have, I was watching an episode of Tyra recently and there was a 17 yr old girl on there who had already had 2 abortions and one miscarriage.

There's a thought......

I find it very strange, with ALL the issues that are hovering over the US right now, that abortion rights or "prolife" is the litmus test for the right leader. Personally, I find the term "pro-life" ironic, too, since many "pro-lifers" support the war, the death penalty, and gun rights.
On the flip side, you can say it's odd that liberals and/or pro-abortion ppl favor killing the innocent unborn, but do not want convicted multiple murderers put to death. Let's not forget people who are very into the environment, wouldn't cut down a tree, yet babies are expendable.

Anyway, no celebrity influences my opinion one way or the other. I just mostly point and laugh at them. lol

:blah:
My point is......the war, the gun touting, and the capital punishment involve people who have had years in. All life, to me, is pretty sacred. I didn't create it. The Lord did.
That being said, I don't think a lot of "pro-choicers" are out to randomly use abortion as birth control. Personally, I don't like the thought of abortion, but I feel it's a decision between a woman and her conscience (God, in my beliefs), not the court of law. I also believe, for minors, the parents need to be involved. If this was a decision for one of my daughters, I would hope to be loving enough to guide them through all the options. I would not pay for an abortion for them, but I would still love and support them should that end up being their decision. It's their body and their conscious and their faith at stake.

There are too many people who would end up getting botched abortions and more problems than it's worth. I would really like to see better sex education, more control over what teens watch and their content, more reasons for abstinence, and better parenting. Getting rid of abortions is NOT going to get to the root source of the whole problem.....promiscuity and lack of responsibility. And what about the responsible women who have major health concerns? True, I believe after the first trimester, it should be highly questioned, and I don't see any need for it in the third trimester, where it would be nitpicking on whether it's a fetus or a human. But life is not all black and white. I find it wrong that these women are made to feel guilty because of this. And, not all pro-choice people are tree huggers or animal advocates. If it makes you feel better, my daughter is anti-abortion, loves animals, and wants to vote for Obama. If she was 18 months older, she would. I would like to see ALL the options fairly and unobjectively presented. I haven't been involved in Planned Parenthood at all except for my stint in college on birth control. But, I hesitate to think they are all radical, scalpel-wielding surgeons, ready to tap into someone's womb any more than I consider all prolife folks to be bombing abortion clinics.
I did not summarize that EVERYONE who is "pro-life" is for capital punishment or freedom to carry guns. I said "So many". I try to avoid painting everyone of a certain party affiliation with one paintbrush. Hell, I'm a registered Republican! They just haven't supported the majority of my beliefs and feelings lately. I even voted for Bush in the last election, much to my consternation.
I wish there was a party for moderate, middle of the road folks like me.

I will agree that I won't allow celebrities to influence me.
I think Roe V Wade should be overturned. It should be up to the voters in their states to decide what they want to do with abortion. Barack Obama voted 4 times against a law that would provide medical services to babies that survive abortion and are born.

I think we have plenty of sex ed out there. The problem is, people don't want to use birth control. We've all seen women get pregnant numerous times by different fathers. We all know how to make babies! lol We all know adopted people and couples with fertility problems. I prefer these unwanted children be adopted. It shouldn't be so hard and expensive to adopt a baby. Hubby and I are talking about adopting a little girl someday. After two sons, I don't want a 50/50 chance of having another boy. But if it's a hassle or too expensive, we may just roll the dice for a third time.

I think if you choose to be a doctor with PP, that you know you will be performing abortions. PP is notorious for not promoting adoption. PP doesn't want parents to have any say in their child's birth control methods or abortion. They make money off of abortions.

I'm a pro life Rep. I voted for Bush. He's been a big disappointment to me. Gore and Kerry weren't an option for me. I literally disagree with Obama on every issue. lol McCain I disagree with him about half the time. McCain was my last choice for the Rep nom. Man, I can't believe we are stuck with these two! lol

With all that being said, the celebs need to realize that half the voting public doesn't agree with their opinions. They risk alienating their fans. If voters really cared what celebs thought, then we'd have a Dem as president forever. Nancy Grahn is one of the worst. I like her as an actress. But every time she opens her mouth, something vile comes out. It's ok to be quoted in a soap mag without bashing Republicans. lol

Re the state issue: That already happens to some extent. There are many stories of women (teens, mostly) who cross state lines because of the various abortion laws. Sure, I'd love for those babies to be adopted, too. Maybe, instead of outlawing abortions, mindsets just need to be changed?
I still don't think Planned Parenthood is this big seven-headed monster. Like everything else, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
But once again, I don't think abortion should be the deciding factor, any more than the environment should be the one and only deciding factor or gay issues. Even (Gasp, I'm saying this!), education issues shouldn't be the one and only factor, although I dare say it probably affects more people than the abortion issue (aside from the fact that we'll either be funding abortions for the poor or the children that are born who are not wanted and haven't been put up for adoption.) Definitely, gun control or lack of shouldn't be the one deciding factor.
That's why I quit being a party voter. Truly, no one candidate is making me totally happy. I'm just closer to Obama's issues on health care, education, and other factors such as these.

If there is a way to make adoption more noble for those who are carrying children who don't want them, I would be one happy camper.

IMO this election is so much more than abortion rights. This election, who we vote in, is going to affect our wallets. Our country is in a huge financial crisis, we have men and women employed overseas fighting for our rights. I really think that as a woman I would be remiss to focus soley on where the candidates stand on abortion rights.

I would be shocked/appalled if Roe v. Wade were ever over turned. It wouldn't stop women from getting abortions. All it would do is lead us back toward back alley abortions, fake doctors, coat hangers and women dying. We already know from how history played out before abortions were legal. Is that a road we really want to go back down? I don't think anyone in the government would be willing to risk the inevitable by overturning Roe v. Wade.

There is so much more at stake with this "changing of the guard" this election, than just abortion rights. We need to expand our views of the candidates to include all the areas that need changing in our country, not just one. I have been guilty of doing that in the past, and voted along party lines. I won't be doing that anymore.

Sorry if I am coming off as preachy. This is obviously just my opinion. This election somehow feels bigger than years past for some reason. I guess it's just due to what a horrible state our country is in right now. We are in debt to China for 600 billion dollars, a country with which we clash with on almost every fundamental level. And in turn they are producing products with Melamine in them, poisoning people. How the heck does this happen? We rely way too heavily on energy from other countries, when we could become free of that debt by increasing our drilling and building more nuclear plants. I just feel that these issues are more pressing than focusing on something that I seriously doubt is really an issue for this day and age. Again, all just my opinion.

Wow with all the issues in the world today and aboriton is at number 1, I think not. There is too many issues besides abortion to let that decide who you should vote for. In any case, I don't agree with abortion, but I feel that its not my place to judge anyone that does. I will leave the judging to God, that's not my place or anyone's for that matter. The one thing I have always dislike about all these different political parties is they use there party to judge people.

The fans needs to realize that these celebrities are regular folks just like us. They will have opinions like us and they are entitled to it. Nancy is doing what she beliefs in, nothing is wrong with that. I applaud Nancy, Heather and the others for speaking up on issues like this.
Amen!!

Everybody is entitled to their opinion on the issues and are equally entitled to be involved in our political process. I have many friends that volunteer for campaigns, use websites and blogs to talk about how they feel about issues and just generally try to spread the word, so to speak, about their candidate or issues. Sometimes I agree with them, sometimes I vehemently disagree, but I don't begrudge them their opinions and the differences do not affect our friendship.

Nancy isn't doing anything different than my friends. She's got a wider exposure because of her fanclub and website, but it's still the same idea. I'm glad that she got some of her friends together and had this kind of chat. Whether you agree or disagree with her politics, it's wonderful to see people getting involved and trying to get others involved as well. Participation in any form is vital. And while I wouldn't join in a Daytime for McCain event, I'd applaud the people who organized it for trying to get more and more people involved in our political process.
